The Chromatics take 2nd Runner Up
The Chromatics are pleased to announce their 3rd place finish at the
Atlantic Region Harmony Sweepstakes. The a cappella festival, presented at
Lisner Auditorium in Washington DC on February 27, 1999, featured 8 groups
from the East Coast. Each group presented a 10-minute program which was
judged on musicality, originality, and overall performance. The Chromatics
squeezed four original songs into their performance: Chromatic
Organum, La La Land, Web Goddess, and Buns & Muffins. Three of these songs
are available on their debut CD, First Light.
The winning group, Minimum Wage, is a zany sketch comedy male a cappella
group that hails from New York City. They were named "outstanding Musical
Comedy Act" at the BackStage Bistro awards and were also Grand Prize
Winners on "America's Funniest People." Most recently they could be heard
on Comedy Central singing the Little Donnie Foundation theme song for the
Upright Citizens Brigade.
The 1st Runner Up group, Toxic Audio, hails from Orlando, Florida, where
these three men and two women perform at the Disney/MGM Studios Theme
Park. This group came together to explore the human voice and its ability
to express ideas at the Orlando Fringe Festival in April 1998. Their
unpredictable style and wide ranging musical tastes have captured the
attention of audiences ever since.
The Chromatics wish to thank all our fans and friends for all of your
encouragement and support over the last couple years. As the result of
many things, not the least of which is the confidence that many of you
have inspired in us, we were able to pull together and do our very best at
this important event! It was a wonderful thrill for us just to share the
stage with such talented groups. The concert was fabulous, each group a
strong contender, and the shock of placing in the competition has yet to
wear off!
So thanks all of you who wear our T-shirt, bought our CD, come to our
gigs, or came out to the Sweeps. We totally appreciate it, and hope we
can go on singing our off-beat flavor of modern a cappella for you in the
years to come.
